Identified by ITU WRC-23 and 3GPP as the foundational workhorse layer for early commercial 6G deployments, FR3 (7.125 GHz to 24 GHz, frequently centered around 7-15 GHz) combines the wide-area propagation characteristics of Sub-6GHz with the substantial bandwidth availability of millimeter waves. Utilizing XL-MIMO and beam-focusing arrays on existing cell towers, FR3 allows telecom operators to deliver 10-50 Gbps user throughput without requiring 10x denser cell tower grids.
