Semi-Persistent Scheduling

Pre-configured periodic downlink PDSCH resource allocation eliminating per-packet PDCCH scheduling overhead.

Technical Explanation

For periodic, fixed-size traffic like VoNR voice packets (arriving every 20 ms), sending a PDCCH grant for every single packet wastes control resources. Semi-Persistent Scheduling pre-configures periodic PDSCH resources via RRC and activates them with a single DCI scrambled by CS-RNTI.

Key Functions

  • Pre-configures periodic downlink resources for predictable traffic (VoNR)
  • Eliminates per-packet PDCCH scheduling overhead
  • Activated and released dynamically via DCI scrambled with CS-RNTI
