P-RNTI
Paging Radio Network Temporary Identifier
Fixed 16-bit RNTI (0xFFFE) used to scramble PDCCH scheduling paging messages on PDSCH.
Technical Explanation
The P-RNTI has a fixed standardized value of 0xFFFE. UEs in RRC_IDLE and RRC_INACTIVE monitor Search Space 2 on their calculated Paging Occasions (POs). When a PDCCH CRC is successfully scrambled with P-RNTI, the UE decodes the scheduled PDSCH to check for its paging record.
Key Functions
- Fixed 16-bit identifier (0xFFFE) dedicated to paging messages
- Used by UEs in idle and inactive states during Paging Occasions
- Schedules PDSCH transmissions carrying core and RAN paging records
