NR-DC

NR-NR Dual Connectivity

Dual connectivity where both Master Node and Secondary Node are 5G gNodeBs operating in different bands.

Technical Explanation

In NR-DC, the UE connects simultaneously to two independent 5G gNodeBs connected to the 5G Core. A typical deployment pairs a low/mid-band sub-6 GHz gNodeB as Master Node (ensuring wide-area coverage and control reliability) with a high-capacity millimeter-wave gNodeB as Secondary Node (delivering multi-gigabit throughput).

Key Functions

  • Connects UE simultaneously to two separate 5G gNodeBs in different bands
  • Combines mid-band (sub-6 GHz) macro coverage with mmWave small cell capacity
  • Executes packet splitting and carrier aggregation natively across 5G nodes
