Master Cell Group
Group of serving cells associated with the Master Node in Multi-RAT Dual Connectivity (MR-DC).
Technical Explanation
In Dual Connectivity architectures (such as EN-DC or NR-DC), the Master Cell Group consists of serving cells hosted by the Master Node (MN). It always contains the primary cell (PCell) which anchors the RRC control plane connection with the core network, plus zero or more secondary cells (SCells).
Key Functions
- Hosts the primary anchor cell (PCell) in Dual Connectivity
- Terminates RRC control plane signaling with the core network
- Provides primary radio leg for data radio bearers and split bearers
