Technical Explanation
Most optical systems require a direct, unobstructed line-of-sight path. Solar-blind Ultraviolet-C communications (200 nm to 280 nm) operate in an optical band where sunlight is completely absorbed by the Earth's stratospheric ozone layer (producing zero background solar noise). UV-C photons scatter intensely off atmospheric air molecules (Rayleigh scattering), allowing receivers to detect scattered photons even when hidden completely around corners or behind buildings.
