Ambient Backscatter Modulator

Zero-Power Reflection State Switching

A microchip circuit that toggles the electrical impedance of an antenna between two states to modulate reflected ambient signals without generating RF energy.

Technical Explanation

Traditional radio transmitters require power amplifiers, mixers, and oscillators that consume milliwatts of power. An Ambient Backscatter Modulator consists of a single transistor switch connected across an antenna. By toggling the transistor ON and OFF, the circuit alternates between reflecting and absorbing ambient cellular waves, embedding digital 1s and 0s onto the reflected wave while consuming mere nanowatts of power.
