RF Backscatter Modulation Communications
A communication technique where a low-power tag transmits information by modulating and reflecting incident radio waves from an external ambient source.
Technical Explanation
Unlike conventional wireless transmitters that generate their own high-frequency carrier wave using power-hungry local oscillators and power amplifiers, backscatter communication relies entirely on reflection. The tag dynamically toggles the electrical load impedance attached to its antenna (between open-circuit, short-circuit, or matched load), modulating the amplitude and phase of ambient RF waves emitted by nearby 6G towers or smartphones.
