t-Reassembly

RLC Reassembly Timer

Timer preventing the RLC receiver from waiting indefinitely for missing out-of-order sequence numbers.

Technical Explanation

When an RLC AM/UM receiver detects a gap in sequence numbers, it starts t-Reassembly. While running, the receiver holds out-of-order PDUs in memory awaiting the missing packets. If the timer expires, the receiver stops waiting, delivers complete SDUs to upper layers, and in AM mode, sends an RLC Status PDU requesting retransmission.

Key Functions

  • Limits receiver buffering time for missing out-of-order packets
  • Prevents receiver buffer bloat and excessive reordering delays
  • Triggers RLC Status PDU generation in Acknowledged Mode
