RTP
Real-time Transport Protocol
IETF RFC 3550 transport protocol carrying packetized audio and video media streams over UDP.
Technical Explanation
RTP transports real-time speech samples generated by the voice codec across the 5G user plane. Each RTP packet contains a timestamp (for jitter buffer playout synchronization), a sequence number (for packet loss detection), and payload type, operating over UDP port pairs.
Key Functions
- Transports real-time voice and video media packets across UDP
- Features precise timestamps enabling jitter buffer playout alignment
- Includes sequence numbers allowing receiver packet loss tracking
