Standardized XR 5QI
3GPP Release 18 Standardized 5G QoS Identifiers for XR
New standardized 5QI table entries defining delay-critical GBR parameters tailored for interactive cloud gaming and holographic telepresence.
Technical Explanation
Legacy 5G QoS identifiers (5QIs) grouped gaming and video together under generic profiles. Release 18 introduces dedicated standardized 5QIs for XR: delay-critical Guaranteed Bit Rate (GBR) flows with Packet Delay Budgets between 10-15 ms, packet error rates of 10^-4 to 10^-5, and explicit Maximum Data Burst Volume (MDBV) allocations matching high-resolution I-frames.
Key Functions
- Standardizes delay-critical GBR profiles with 10 ms to 15 ms latency boundaries
- Allocates Maximum Data Burst Volumes (MDBV) sized for 4K/8K video keyframes
- Enforces strict packet error rates (PER < 10^-4) for uncompressed sensory feeds
- Ensures uniform QoS treatment across multi-vendor carrier networks worldwide
