Technical Explanation
Photorealistic virtual worlds require power-hungry GPUs that cannot fit inside a lightweight 80-gram pair of augmented reality glasses. Rel-18 standardizes network support for Split Rendering: an edge cloud server renders heavy 3D environmental lighting and geometry, compresses the video stream, and sends it over 5G; the glasses render real-time head motion reprojection locally.

- Enables slim, lightweight AR/VR smart glasses without bulky batteries or cooling fans
- Offloads complex 3D graphical ray-tracing and physics simulations to edge cloud GPUs
- Performs asynchronous time-warp (ATW) locally on the headset to prevent motion sickness
- Leverages deterministic low-latency 5G-Advanced pipes to bridge the cloud and device
