Radio Frame

5G NR 10 ms Radio Frame

Fundamental time-domain frame structure of 10 ms duration consisting of 10 subframes numbered 0 to 9.

Technical Explanation

A 5G NR radio frame has a fixed duration of 10 milliseconds regardless of numerology. Each frame is divided into two equal-length half-frames of 5 ms (subframes 0-4 and 5-9). Frames are identified by a System Frame Number (SFN) ranging from 0 to 1023, repeating every 10.24 seconds.

Key Functions

  • Serves as macro timing baseline for all cellular operations
  • Contains 10 fixed subframes of 1 ms each
  • Indexed by System Frame Number (SFN) cycling every 10.24 seconds
