QCL Type D

Quasi-Co-Location Type D (Spatial Rx Parameter)

Spatial QCL assumption instructing the UE to receive the channel using the exact same spatial RX analog beam.

Technical Explanation

QCL Type D is the critical beamforming parameter in FR2 millimeter-wave. It informs the UE that the target channel (PDCCH or PDSCH) is transmitted with the same spatial characteristics as a source reference signal (SSB or CSI-RS). The UE applies the identical analog spatial receive filter (beam) that was used to receive the source signal.

Key Functions

  • Informs UE to apply identical spatial receive antenna beam
  • Mandatory for beamforming operation in millimeter wave (FR2)
  • Links PDSCH/PDCCH beams directly to measured SSB/CSI-RS beam angles
