PUCCH Format 2

Short PUCCH Format for >2 Bits

Short 1-2 symbol PUCCH carrying more than 2 bits of UCI using CP-OFDM with embedded DMRS on 1 to 16 PRBs.

Technical Explanation

PUCCH Format 2 spans 1 or 2 OFDM symbols across 1 to 16 PRBs. It transmits medium to large UCI payloads (>2 bits, such as multi-carrier HARQ-ACK or subband CSI) encoded with Reed-Muller or Polar codes, using QPSK modulation and DMRS placed on every third subcarrier.

Key Functions

  • Delivers low-latency multi-bit UCI payloads (>2 bits) in 1-2 symbols
  • Scales bandwidth dynamically from 1 to 16 PRBs
  • Uses Polar or Reed-Muller coding for error protection
