pi/2-BPSK

pi/2-Binary Phase Shift Keying

Ultra-low PAPR modulation mapping 1 bit per symbol with 90-degree phase rotation, enhancing uplink cell-edge range.

Technical Explanation

When combined with DFT-s-OFDM, pi/2-BPSK rotates the constellation by 90 degrees (pi/2 radians) on consecutive symbols. This completely prevents the waveform from crossing through the origin, slashing the Peak-to-Average Power Ratio (PAPR) to near 0 dB and extending uplink reach by up to 3 dB.

Key Functions

  • Slashing PAPR to near 0 dB when paired with DFT-s-OFDM
  • Extends uplink cell-edge coverage by 2 to 3 dB
  • Features specialized spectral shaping filter options in 3GPP
