DFT-s-OFDM

Discrete Fourier Transform Spread OFDM

Optional uplink single-carrier waveform (transform precoding) providing low Peak-to-Average Power Ratio (PAPR).

Technical Explanation

DFT-s-OFDM applies a DFT precoding operation prior to subcarrier mapping. This preserves single-carrier waveform properties, resulting in a significantly lower PAPR (1.5 to 2.5 dB lower than CP-OFDM). It allows power amplifiers on cell-edge UEs to transmit closer to maximum power without distortion, extending uplink coverage.

Key Functions

  • Lowers Peak-to-Average Power Ratio (PAPR) for uplink transmissions
  • Maximizes uplink power amplifier efficiency at cell edge
  • Configurable per UE for PUSCH and PUCCH
