1024QAM

1024 Quadrature Amplitude Modulation

Extreme modulation order introduced in Rel-17 mapping 10 bits per symbol for dense small cell environments.

Technical Explanation

Introduced in 3GPP Release 17 for FR1 downlink, 1024QAM packs 10 bits per symbol into a massive 1024-point constellation. It achieves a 25% peak rate enhancement over 256QAM, intended for fixed wireless access (FWA) and dense indoor small cells with pristine line-of-sight conditions (>30 dB SINR).

Key Functions

  • Encodes 10 bits per complex modulation symbol
  • Provides 25% peak throughput gain over 256QAM in FR1
  • Designed for Fixed Wireless Access (FWA) and high-density indoor microcells
