PDU Session Unstructured

Unstructured PDU Session Type

PDU session transporting arbitrary raw binary data without protocol headers, optimized for lightweight IoT.

Technical Explanation

Unstructured PDU Sessions transport opaque binary byte streams without IP or Ethernet headers. Designed for constrained sensor devices (mMTC), data can be routed via point-to-point N6 tunnels or delivered directly to application servers via the Network Exposure Function (NEF).

Key Functions

  • Transports opaque binary payloads with zero protocol header overhead
  • Optimized for ultra-low power sensor telemetry in smart utility metering
  • Supports delivery via Point-to-Point N6 tunnels or NEF API gateways
Specifications
3GPP TS 23.501, TS 24.501
Interfaces
