Logical Channel Prioritization
MAC layer scheduling algorithm multiplexing data from multiple logical channels into a single transport block.
Technical Explanation
When an uplink grant is received, the MAC layer executes Logical Channel Prioritization. Using a token bucket rate control model, LCP first allocates resources to each logical channel up to its Prioritized Bit Rate (PBR) in decreasing order of priority, and subsequently distributes remaining grant capacity to high-priority channels.
Key Functions
- Multiplexes data from RLC entities into a MAC PDU transport block
- Applies token bucket rate policing using Prioritized Bit Rate (PBR)
- Satisfies QoS requirements across voice, control, and background data
