DMRS
Demodulation Reference Signal
Channel-specific reference signal embedded alongside physical channels for coherent demodulation.
Technical Explanation
In 5G NR, DMRS is strictly UE-specific and transmitted only within the resource blocks allocated for the corresponding channel (PDCCH, PDSCH, PBCH, PUCCH, or PUSCH). Because DMRS experiences the exact same beamforming and precoding as the data symbols, the receiver performs channel estimation directly without knowledge of antenna beam weights.
Key Functions
- Provides coherent channel estimation for data and control channels
- Transmitted with identical precoding and beamforming as data payload
- Configurable density in time and frequency to adapt to Doppler and delay spread
