Deregistration Procedure

5GS Deregistration Procedure

Procedure terminating UE registration in the 5G Core, releasing all PDU sessions and radio contexts.

Technical Explanation

Deregistration can be UE-initiated (power-off or flight mode) or network-initiated (subscription cancellation, operator maintenance). The AMF releases all associated PDU sessions with SMF/UPF, tears down radio contexts in the gNodeB, and transitions the UE state to RM-DEREGISTERED.

Key Functions

  • Gracefully terminates user registration upon power-off or network command
  • Releases all active PDU sessions and associated user plane tunnels
  • Transitions registration state back to RM-DEREGISTERED
