PDU Session IPv4

IPv4 PDU Session Type

PDU session providing standard 32-bit public or private IPv4 connectivity for user plane traffic.

Technical Explanation

In an IPv4 PDU session, the SMF allocates a 32-bit IPv4 address to the UE during session establishment via NAS signaling or internal DHCP. The UPF routes standard IPv4 packets between the gNodeB GTP-U tunnel and the external Data Network over N6.

Key Functions

  • Allocates standard 32-bit IPv4 address via NAS signaling
  • Routes user plane IPv4 traffic across GTP-U N3 and N6 interfaces
  • Compatible with legacy Internet and corporate intranet infrastructure
Specifications
3GPP TS 23.501, TS 24.501
Interfaces
N1N3N6
