Modular, containerized software applications running on the Near-RT RIC to execute specialized radio resource management algorithms.
Technical Explanation
xApps represent the app store model for cellular radio intelligence. Telecom operators and enterprise tenants can deploy independent microservices from specialized software vendors onto the Near-RT RIC. Examples in 6G include an ISAC Gesture Tracking xApp, a Sub-THz Blockage Prediction xApp, an Energy-Saving Massive MIMO xApp, and an Autonomous Vehicle Platoon Coordination xApp, all sharing standardized E2 telemetry.

- Plug-and-play containerized deployment onto O-RAN Near-RT RIC platforms
- Access to standardized E2 radio metrics (CQI, RSRP, beam IDs, sensing echoes)
- Execution of reinforcement learning and heuristic radio optimization logic
