UE Polarization-Division Multiplexing

Dual-Orthogonal Polarization MIMO Transceiver for Handsets

Smartphone antenna technology transmitting independent data streams simultaneously over horizontal, vertical, and circular polarizations.

Technical Explanation

Due to space limits on mobile devices, spacing antenna elements multi-wavelengths apart for spatial multiplexing is difficult. The UE polarization-division multiplexing subsystem leverages dual-polarized microstrip patches and cross-dipoles operating in orthogonal polarizations (H/V or RHCP/LHCP). Because cross-polarization discrimination (XPD) remains high even in dense multipath environments, the handset doubles its link throughput without requiring additional physical chassis length.
