Rate-Splitting Multiple Access
A generalized multi-user communication framework that splits user messages into common and private parts to smoothly bridge and outperform both SDMA and NOMA.
Technical Explanation
Rate-Splitting Multiple Access (RSMA) is widely recognized as the most versatile multiple access scheme for 6G. Instead of treating interference purely as noise (like SDMA) or completely decoding all interference (like NOMA), RSMA splits user messages into common parts (decoded by all users to manage multi-user interference) and private parts (decoded by intended users). RSMA is mathematically proven to encompass and strictly outperform SDMA, NOMA, and multicasting under imperfect channel state information.
