Quantum Entanglement Swapping Node
Telecommunications Optical Quantum Repeater for Long-Distance Entanglement
Optical core network node that joins short-distance entangled photon pairs to distribute quantum entanglement across continental distances.
Technical Explanation
Photons carrying quantum information cannot be amplified using conventional electronic or optical amplifiers without destroying their delicate quantum state (no-cloning theorem), limiting single-hop fiber transmission to ~100 km. The Quantum Entanglement Swapping Node performs Bell-state quantum measurements on independent entangled photon pairs. By performing entanglement swapping, it teleports quantum entanglement across thousands of kilometers of fiber, creating a global Quantum Internet.
Key Functions
- Distributes quantum entanglement across continental distances without classical repeaters
- Performs Bell-state quantum measurements on entangled optical photon pairs
- Forms the foundational routing building block of the future Quantum Internet
- Enables distributed quantum cloud computing and unconditional secure communications
