Massive SIMO with 1-Bit ADCs
Single-Input Multiple-Output Array with Ultra-Low Resolution Converters
Base station receiver architecture using thousands of simple antennas equipped with 1-bit or 2-bit ADCs to cut power consumption by 90%.
Technical Explanation
Equipping thousands of antenna elements with high-resolution (12-bit) analog-to-digital converters in an ELAA array consumes hundreds of watts of power. Massive SIMO with 1-Bit ADCs uses ultra-simple 1-bit comparators (detecting only whether the signal is positive or negative). By leveraging the law of large numbers across thousands of antennas, advanced non-linear signal recovery algorithms reconstruct the original high-resolution signal with near-zero loss in capacity, slashing receiver power draw.
Key Functions
- Replaces power-hungry 12-bit ADCs with simple 1-bit or 2-bit comparators
- Reduces base station receiver front-end power consumption by up to 90%
- Recovers high-resolution signals using statistical oversampling across massive antennas
- Makes deployment of tens of thousands of antenna elements economically viable
