Technical Explanation
In 6G, the sheer volume of local traffic (such as autonomous cars communicating with roadside sensors or nearby VR gamers) renders routing data back to a regional data center impractical. The Disaggregated Distributed User Plane (D-UPF) consists of a mesh of thousands of microscopic packet-forwarding nodes deployed on streetlamps, smart buildings, and bus stops. Packets are switched laterally across the local edge mesh, cutting latency to tens of microseconds.
