Technical Explanation
In distributed edge AI, thousands of edge devices train local neural networks and upload gradients to a base station to compute an average. Uploading gradients individually requires massive bandwidth. Over-the-Air Computation (AirComp) instructs all devices to transmit their analog gradients simultaneously on the exact same frequency. The physical wireless medium naturally sums the electromagnetic waves, allowing the base station antenna to receive the pre-computed mathematical average directly, slashing communication overhead by 99%.
