Target capability requiring 6G radio links to achieve up to 60 bits per second per Hertz of spectrum, a 2x-3x increase over 5G.
Technical Explanation
Spectral efficiency measures how densely data can be packed into a given frequency bandwidth. While 5G achieved peak spectral efficiencies of 30 bps/Hz, 6G targets 60 bps/Hz (downlink) and 30-45 bps/Hz (uplink). This is accomplished through extreme 3D spatial multiplexing in massive antenna arrays, non-orthogonal modulation schemes, ultra-high order QAM constellations (up to 4096-QAM), and learned autoencoder signal representations.
