Uplink Power Control

5G NR Uplink Power Control

Algorithm regulating UE transmit power for PUSCH, PUCCH, and PRACH to balance cell throughput and interference.

Technical Explanation

5G NR power control combines open-loop path loss estimation with closed-loop network commands: P = min(P_CMAX, P_0 + alpha * PL + delta_TF + f(i)). Open loop compensates for long-term path loss and shadowing based on downlink RSRP; closed loop provides rapid adjustments via Transmit Power Control (TPC) commands in DCI.

Key Functions

  • Dynamically calculates UE transmit power per channel and per beam
  • Combines open-loop pathloss compensation with closed-loop TPC commands
  • Maintains stable received power at gNodeB while respecting SAR power ceilings
