Sidelink Mode 2

Autonomous UE Sidelink Resource Selection

Autonomous sidelink mode where vehicles sense channel energy and select transmission resources without base stations.

Technical Explanation

In Mode 2, vehicles operate autonomously outside cellular coverage (e.g. rural roads, tunnels). Each vehicle senses channel activity, builds an energy map of candidate resources over a sensing window, and randomly selects an unoccupied resource within a selection window, ensuring safety communication never stops.

Key Functions

  • Operates completely autonomously without requiring cellular network coverage
  • Employs blind sensing and channel energy measurement algorithms
  • Guarantees continuous automotive safety telemetry in tunnels and remote roads
