RIM-RS
Remote Interference Management Reference Signal
Reference signal used to detect atmospheric ducting interference in long-distance TDD networks.
Technical Explanation
Under atmospheric ducting conditions (tropospheric temperature inversion), downlink signals from distant gNodeBs (hundreds of km away) can propagate beyond the guard period and collide with local uplink slots. RIM-RS is transmitted to detect such interference and coordinate mitigation between operators.
Key Functions
- Detects atmospheric ducting interference across distant base stations
- Transmits periodic sequence during TDD guard periods
- Triggers adaptive mitigation schemes (e.g. dynamic muting, slot adjustment)
Specifications
3GPP TS 38.211
Interfaces
