PRS
Positioning Reference Signal
Downlink reference signal with regular comb patterns designed for precise time-of-arrival measurements.
Technical Explanation
Introduced in 3GPP Rel-16, PRS is broadcast by multiple transmission points (gNodeBs) using comb-2, comb-4, comb-6, or comb-12 frequency patterns across up to 12 consecutive symbols. It provides high cross-correlation and interference mitigation for DL-TDOA and Multi-RTT positioning algorithms.
Key Functions
- Generates orthogonal reference patterns across neighboring base stations
- Enables Reference Signal Time Difference (RSTD) measurements for TDOA
- Provides sub-meter accurate positioning for commercial and industrial use
