Technical Explanation

Positioning Reference Signals (PRS) occupy valuable time-frequency resource elements that would otherwise carry paying user data. Rel-18 optimizes PRS comb patterns and mute sequences: by concentrating PRS energy into optimized pseudo-random staggering sequences, the network achieves identical timing accuracy while freeing half the spectrum for mobile data.
