Energy-Efficient DPD
Digital Pre-Distortion Optimization for High-Efficiency PAs
Advanced digital pre-distortion algorithms that allow power amplifiers to operate deep in their nonlinear saturation region, maximizing power added efficiency.
Technical Explanation
Power Amplifiers (PAs) achieve their highest electrical efficiency near their physical saturation point, where they introduce severe non-linear distortion. Rel-18 Energy-Efficient Digital Pre-Distortion (DPD) uses neural and Volterra series modeling to pre-distort input signals with extreme precision, allowing base station PAs to operate at peak Power Added Efficiency (PAE > 50%) without failing regulatory spectral masks.
Key Functions
- Linearizes power amplifiers operating near their physical saturation threshold
- Increases base station Power Added Efficiency (PAE) from 30% to over 50%
- Prevents non-linear distortion from violating regulatory Adjacent Channel Leakage limits
- Significantly reduces heat dissipation, shrinking base station cooling requirements
