10 Mbps Throughput Ceiling
eRedCap 10 Mbps Peak Rate Specification
Engineered peak data rate ceiling of ~10 Mbps Downlink and ~5 Mbps Uplink, perfectly matching industrial telemetry and smart metering requirements.
Technical Explanation
Rather than chasing gigabit speeds, eRedCap deliberately limits maximum transport block sizes to deliver approximately 10 Mbps in downlink and 5 Mbps in uplink. This reduction simplifies internal buffer memory (SRAM), eliminating expensive external DRAM chips and allowing single-chip System-on-Chip (SoC) integration for sub-$5 cellular modules.
Key Functions
- Standardizes 10 Mbps DL and 5 Mbps UL peak transport capacity
- Slashes on-chip buffer SRAM memory requirements, lowering silicon chip die cost
- Eliminates the requirement for external DRAM memory in device hardware design
- Fully satisfies requirements for utility smart grids, health sensors, and POS terminals
