Technical Explanation
Waking up the primary 5G baseband processor just to decode paging messages drains significant battery power. Rel-18 introduces Low-Power Wake-Up Signals (LP-WUS) and studies companion wake-up receivers (WUR) consuming under 100 microwatts. The secondary receiver detects a simple On-Off Keying (OOK) wake-up burst and alerts the primary 5G modem only when real data arrives.
