Enhanced EAS Discovery

Dynamic Edge Application Server Discovery in 5G Core

Core network DNS and SMF mechanism that detects client application requests and resolves FQDNs directly to the closest local edge server instance.

Technical Explanation

When a connected car or VR headset queries a game server domain (e.g. `cloudgame.service.com`), routing the DNS request to a central server adds 40 ms of delay. Rel-18 Enhanced Edge Application Server (EAS) Discovery allows the local UPF and SMF to intercept DNS queries, resolving them to the IP address of the edge GPU server running in the local base station closet.
