MFBR

Maximum Flow Bit Rate

Maximum data rate in bits per second permitted for a GBR QoS flow; traffic exceeding MFBR is policed.

Technical Explanation

Signaled alongside GFBR, the Maximum Flow Bit Rate (MFBR) caps the maximum throughput a GBR stream can consume. Packets arriving at the UPF or gNodeB exceeding MFBR are dropped or shaped using token bucket policers, preventing a single video call from monopolizing radio resources.

Key Functions

  • Caps maximum throughput allocated to a single GBR stream
  • Policed via token bucket algorithms at UPF and gNodeB buffers
  • Protects shared radio spectrum from runaway application bandwidth surges
