Intra-Band Contiguous CA

Intra-Band Contiguous Carrier Aggregation

Aggregating adjacent component carriers within the exact same operating frequency band.

Technical Explanation

Intra-band contiguous CA combines adjacent RF carriers with zero or minimal frequency gap between them. Because the carriers share RF front-end components, power amplifiers, and antennas, it minimizes hardware complexity on UEs while doubling or tripling data rates in wide operator blocks.

Key Functions

  • Combines adjacent spectrum channels using a single RF transceiver chain
  • Maximizes spectrum utilization within single contiguous operator allocations
  • Supported in both FR1 (e.g. 100 MHz + 100 MHz in n77) and FR2 (4 x 100 MHz in n257)
Specifications
3GPP TS 38.101-1, TS 38.101-2
Interfaces
