Inter-Band CA
Inter-Band Carrier Aggregation
Aggregating component carriers across completely different operating frequency bands.
Technical Explanation
Inter-band CA combines carriers from disparate bands, such as low-band FDD (e.g. 700 MHz n28) for robust uplink coverage and mid-band TDD (e.g. 3.5 GHz n78) for high-speed downlink capacity. It requires separate RF front-ends, duplexers, and power amplifiers for each band.
Key Functions
- Pairs coverage bands (sub-1 GHz) with capacity bands (mid-band/mmWave)
- Requires dedicated RF chains and filters for each respective frequency band
- Solves uplink coverage asymmetry while boosting downlink throughput
