Cross-Carrier Scheduling

Cross-Carrier Scheduling via CIF

PDCCH on one component carrier schedules PDSCH or PUSCH transmissions on a different component carrier.

Technical Explanation

To protect control channels from severe interference on secondary carriers, Cross-Carrier Scheduling transmits PDCCH exclusively on a robust primary carrier (PCell). A 3-bit Carrier Indicator Field (CIF) inside the DCI designates which SCell is scheduled for data reception or transmission.

Key Functions

  • Concentrates control channel transmission on high-reliability primary carrier
  • Identifies target component carrier using 3-bit Carrier Indicator Field (CIF)
  • Protects control channels from severe interference in heterogeneous networks
