Fractional Power Control Alpha

Pathloss Compensation Factor Alpha

Weighting factor (0.0 to 1.0) defining the fraction of downlink path loss compensated by the UE.

Technical Explanation

Alpha is an RRC parameter taking values in {0.0, 0.4, 0.5, 0.6, 0.7, 0.8, 0.9, 1.0}. When alpha = 1.0, the UE performs full path loss compensation, eliminating path loss differences between cell-center and cell-edge UEs. When alpha < 1.0, cell-edge UEs transmit at lower power, mitigating inter-cell uplink interference in dense networks.

  • Balances cell-edge throughput against inter-cell interference generation
