Extended Cyclic Prefix

Extended Cyclic Prefix Configuration

Longer cyclic prefix configuration supported at 60 kHz SCS providing 12 symbols per slot for extreme delay spread.

Technical Explanation

Extended Cyclic Prefix is specified exclusively for 60 kHz subcarrier spacing (mu=2). It offers a duration of 4.16 microseconds (compared to 1.17 us for normal CP at 60 kHz), yielding 12 OFDM symbols per slot. It is designed for extreme delay spread environments such as large rural cells, mountainous terrain, or high-speed vehicular corridors.

Key Functions

  • Provides extended delay spread tolerance (up to 4.16 us at 60 kHz SCS)
  • Yields 12 OFDM symbols per slot instead of 14
  • Mitigates severe inter-symbol interference in mountainous or large-cell terrain
