E1 Application Protocol
Signaling protocol operating across the E1 interface between gNB-CU-CP and gNB-CU-UP.
Technical Explanation
Specified in 3GPP TS 38.463, E1AP provides procedures for the control plane to command user plane worker nodes: E1 Setup, Reset, Bearer Context Setup (configuring SDAP mapping, PDCP security keys, RoHC parameters), Bearer Context Modification, and Bearer Context Release.
Key Functions
- Standardizes commands between CU Control Plane and CU User Plane
- Configures SDAP flow mapping rules and PDCP encryption keys in CU-UP
- Reports data volume metrics and bearer inactivity indications to CP
