Dynamic Spectrum Sharing
Technology allowing 4G LTE and 5G NR to dynamically share the exact same frequency carrier on a millisecond basis.
Technical Explanation
Dynamic Spectrum Sharing enables operators to deploy 5G NR on existing 4G FDD spectrum (e.g. 700 MHz, 1.8 GHz, 2.1 GHz) without refarming. 5G NR rate-matches around LTE Cell-Specific Reference Signals (CRS) and MBSFN subframes, dynamically assigning PRBs between LTE and 5G UEs based on real-time traffic demand.
Key Functions
- Enables concurrent 4G and 5G transmission on identical frequency bands
- Eliminates need for costly and prolonged spectrum refarming
- Rate-matches 5G PDSCH around legacy LTE Cell-Specific Reference Signals (CRS)
