CBG
Code Block Group
Grouping of code blocks allowing selective HARQ retransmission of only corrupted portions of a transport block.
Technical Explanation
When large transport blocks (tens of thousands of bits) are transmitted, noise bursts may corrupt only one or two code blocks. In Code Block Group (CBG) based transmission, a transport block is partitioned into up to 8 CBGs. The UE generates multi-bit HARQ-ACK feedback, prompting retransmission of only the failed CBGs rather than the entire transport block.
Key Functions
- Partitions large transport blocks into up to 8 Code Block Groups
- Enables selective retransmission of only corrupted code blocks
- Saves up to 85% of radio resources during high-speed burst retransmissions
