5G SRVCC
5G Single Radio Voice Call Continuity
Voice call handover mechanism transferring active 5G VoNR call to 3G UMTS circuit-switched speech.
Technical Explanation
Introduced in 3GPP Rel-16, 5G SRVCC enables voice call continuity in areas lacking 4G VoLTE coverage. When 5G coverage fades and only legacy 3G UMTS is available, the gNodeB and AMF coordinate with the MSC Server to hand over the active VoNR call directly to 3G CS speech.
Key Functions
- Hands over active 5G VoNR calls to 3G UMTS circuit switched networks
- Operates via N26/Sv interface to Mobile Switching Center (MSC Server)
- Prevents dropped voice calls in emerging markets with legacy 3G
Specifications
3GPP TS 23.216, TS 23.502
Interfaces
N26SvUu
